Somalia/Internally displaced people (IDPs)/ IDPs find very difficult to to engage in regular economic activities that could provide a stable income for them and their families. Most of them do casual labour such as collecting carbage and washing clothes for the host community. Girls from IDPs settlements in Galkayo get trained at the Galkayo Education Center for Peace and Development on sawing skills. Fartun Abdi Hashi, 19, from Mogadishu, she fled five years ago because of the fighting. Fartun wants to own a huge tayloring shop, most preferably in Mogadishu when there is peace. She is also a source of inspiration for her younger siblings. So far 60 girls have been trained at the center not only on sawing skills but also on sanitary wear production. UNHCR/R.
